The Sladmore Gallery is proud to have collaborated with the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, in the curation of their exhibition ‘The Art of Bugatti’. The show, which runs until October 1 2017, celebrates the extraordinarily gifted Bugatti family and features sculptures from the Sladmore collection. We have also facilitated loans of artworks from other private collections. In 2014 we collaborated with Peter Mullin, the chair of the Petersen Museum, in the organisation of an exhibition which was held at the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California. Sladmore are delighted once again to see Rembrandt Bugatti’s wonderful bronzes displayed alongside his father’s furniture and design and his brother’s classic motors.
Due to the success of the exhibition, these loans have now been extended until the end of March. We are delighted that these rare works, some of them pièces uniques, many seldom seen on public view, are being exhibited in America - Rembrandt Bugatti would have loved knowing his work made it to the New World.
The Bugatti family comprised three generations of artists driven by experimentation, ambition, and beauty. This retrospective exhibition aligns their pursuit of fine art, craftsmanship, and inspired automotive design to tell their story and gives visitors a glimpse into the beginnings of the Bugatti family. The patriarch, Carlo Bugatti forged a unique path in many areas of the arts - architecture, painting, furniture design and silversmithing. His sons, the sculptor Rembrandt and the car-designer Ettore were no less gifted.
On show are the Grand Giraffe, Javan Rhinoceros, Family of Yaks, Standing Leopard, Percheron Stallion, Walking Stork, Tiger and Snake, Mère Blessée, the Apple Seller and the life-size Mes Antilopes.
Founded on June 11, 1994, The Petersen Automotive Museum explores the history of the automobile and its impact on American life and culture. The museum is housed in a historic building originally designed by Welton Becket. Following a $90 million renovation in 2015 there are now 25, new, state of the art galleries to visit and a stunning new interior.
